For example, you can take advantage of the Enterprise User Security features of Oracle Advanced Security. For more information, see Oracle Advanced Security User's Guide.

For more information about Oracle Internet Directory, see the Oracle Internet Directory Administrator's Guide.

To register the database with the Directory Service, click Yes, register the database and provide the credentials for the Directory Service and a password for the Oracle wallet. For more information, see the following sections of this topic.

About the Distinguished Name Credentials

The credentials must be in the form of a distinguished name (DN), which uniquely identifies a user in the directory. The DN must be in the
DBAdmin
group. The following example shows a typical DN:

cn=AmyScott, ou=Marketing, o=example

About the Wallet Password

As part of database registration, DBUA creates an Oracle wallet that enables secure, password-authenticated communication between the database and Oracle Internet Directory. This provides directory services for Oracle databases.

An Oracle wallet is an encrypted container used to store and manage security credentials, such as private keys. Private keys are an essential component of the industry-standard Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) security model that secures your database.

When you register the database in the Directory Service, DBUA generates a random password that the database uses to authenticate its communication with the Directory Service. DBUA stores this password in the database wallet and in the Directory Service.

The wallet credentials are used to access and manage the contents of the Oracle wallet. For more information about managing and using wallets with the Oracle Wallet Manager, see the Oracle Advanced Security Administrator's Guide.

Entering the Wallet Password

The password that you enter must comply with the Password Management Policy guidelines, which are documented in the Oracle Advanced Security Administrator's Guide. For example, the password that you enter here must be at least eight characters in length and the characters must be both alphabetic and numeric.

Related Topics

Overview of DBUA

Copyright © 1996, 2009, Oracle and/or its affiliates.
